The tray is part of a collection that emerged from the self-developed production method. Vessels and dishware used to be the archetypal objects of the hammering craft. They were traditionally manufactured from copper due to their formable characteristics. By using the nail gun, stiffer metals such as stainless steel can be processed.

Hammered Scapes

A new production method emerges from a traditional craft and defines the process between user and machine as a performance.

The Hammered Scapes is a new interpretation of the hammering craft. The impact of a compressed-air nailgun causes individual punches on the sheet metal. The workbench and CNC- milled stencils, which were designed for hammering, help form reproducible shapes and control the movement of the sheet metal during the process. The workbench represents the center of the happening.

The artist itself handles the nailgun, and the whole setting allows an intuitive, painterly approach which leads to a production happening of a performance. 3-dimensional bodies with high rigidity and stability can be created due to this production method made of just a thin metal sheet. Different surfaces and nearly „landscapes“ can be formed by using various hammer attachments for the nailgun. Every object is a unique piece created through a process performance between user and machine. Each of them manifests the aesthetic and the functional range of this technique.
